Martz trailer trucks in accordance with VDI 2700 8.1 - a guarantee of transport safety
As of September 2024, new regulations for securing cargo on trailer trailers, set forth in VDI 2700 Part 8.1, took effect in Germany. The document, developed by the Association of German Engineers (VDI), focuses on Lohr floor trailers, which are used to transport vehicles.
What does the VDI 2700 8.1 standard change?
The new technical requirements cover, among other things, the technical condition of the loading platform, the tightness of hydraulic systems, the completeness and quality of transport restraints, as well as the compliance of restraining elements (such as belts and chocks) with relevant VDI standards. The purpose of introducing these regulations is to minimize the risk of vehicle movement during transport, especially in emergency situations such as sudden braking.

Martz fully compliant with VDI standard
Martz-branded trailer trucks, manufactured from January 1, 2020, meet all the requirements set out in the VDI 2700 8.1 standard. This is confirmed by certificates awarded by the Institute of Motor Transport, attesting to the quality of materials used, precision workmanship and compliance with the latest safety standards.
Any Martz trailer-truck sold after January 1, 2020, that meets the VDI 2700 8.1 standard has:
- Individual certificate assigned to the VIN number (valid for 12 months from the date of purchase),
- A sticker confirming compliance with the standard for easy identification during roadside inspections.
How to obtain or renew a VDI certificate?
Owners of Martz lawnmobiles manufactured after January 1, 2020 have the opportunity to have a technical inspection at authorized dealerships, allowing them to be issued a new VDI certificate or to extend its validity. During the inspection, the following is verified, among other things:
- The technical condition of the Lohr-type floor and its fixings,
- The completeness of the conveyor belts and their compliance with the VDI standard,
- The presence of hologram-equipped wheel locks,
- The condition of the hydraulic system and other safety components.
If irregularities are detected, it is possible to repair or replace the necessary components on site. The certificate is issued after a positive assessment of the technical condition of the trailer, in accordance with the applicable price list of services.
